The Twentyten Video Look Book

As mentioned in the last post about the Twentyten exhibition, there was a really awesome video which played on loop during the exhibition alongside the fashion and jewelry that gave life to the concept of the collection. The video done by We Come in Peace, Matthew Barela, and Fake love shows the collection’s fictional female character and her descent into madness.

September 14th Carrie exhibited her newest collection, the “Twentyten” collection along side the amazing fashion group, The Twentyten.

This collaborative project marries the architectonic sensibility of the electric Twentyten, with Carrie’s instinctively organic and psychologically compelling sculptural jewelry which has become her signature. The gleaming cicadas and bejeweled spiders of her Attachment of Fear series have here been transformed into embryonic talismans created from bone, pumice and human hair. Connecting and interacting with the body, these works create an intriguing interplay between the fabricated and natural and the structural and the mystical.

The exhibition was held in the beautiful Starrett-Lehigh building at the Goldsmith showroom, a bright and sunny white loft (like a blank canvas) overlooking the Hudson river. All the clothing and some of the jewelry were on the white mannequins, but there were also two jewelry cases displaying Carrie’s new collection as well. A video by We Come In Peace was projected all over the walls, giving life to concept of both Carrie and the Twentyten’s collections. The video shows the fictional female character and her descent into madness.

The turnout to the show was huge and overall the show was a great success!

Big Presence at 2010 SNAG Conference!

Carrie’s Arachnophobia Brooches were a big hit at this years 2010 SNAG (Society for North American Goldsmiths) Conference!

This year’s annual SNAG conference was held in Houston, Texas the weekend of March 12th. Every year there are several juried gallery exhibitions and shows done around the city where the conference is being held in coordination with the conference. There is also a juried slide show presentation of student work. My Arachnophobia brooches were in this year’s “Presence of Thought” presentation… check out the “Presence of Thought” link below! The spider brooches also made it into the Exhibition in Motion and the No Boundaries exhibition displayed my Masking a Fear Head Piece and very popular Skin Crawling Bracelet! I would say I made a good presence of my own this year at SNAG! To bad I couldn’t attend…. Maybe next year.

NICHE Award Finalist

Carrie was named and awarded a 2010 NICHE finalist in the Student Jewelry: Fashion category for her Skin Crawling Bracelet.

She attended an awards ceremony at the Philadelphia Convention Center on Feb. 12th and her finalist piece Skin Crawling Bracelet was displayed at the Convention Center at the Philadelphia Buyers Market that same weekend. Only 70 entries out of nearly 800 submissions were named finalists of this year’s competition. The awards program is sponsored by NICHE magazine, the exclusive trade publication for independent retailers of fine craft. Judging for the student division is based on two main criteria: Technical excellence, both in surface design and form and A distinct quality of unique, original and creative thought.
